Jesus is trying to strengthen us for the future. If we don't have His Spirit in us we are in the flesh and if you live in the flesh you shall die. God promises that he will deliver us from whatever we are going through as long as we stay with Him, and He wants us to increase in faith through studying His word and acting in His will, not ours.
